Biography

In 1999, at a school in the neighborhood of Saavedra in Buenos Aires, two strangers met on an improvised stage. After playing some Megadeth and Deep Purple tunes, they drove the crowd crazy. Ariel Bellizio (guitar) and Alejandro López (drums) would never separate afterwards, even though they were thrown out of school after this episode.
A ten-year-old Marcelo Malmierca, the son of an unknown jazz drummer, went mad while listening to King Crimson, ELP, Van Der Graaf, and Astor Piazzolla. and years later, lost his mind making his own synthesizers, hoping to reproduce the sounds that they left in his head. Juan Manuel López, known as the Argentinian with the widest knowledge about KISS, lost his composure after listening to “Sheer Heart Attack” by Queen.
He’s currently studying the life and work of David Bowie while playing bass. In 2017, after listening to 102 singers, Fughu found his voice and heart again in Renzo Favaro. Renzo still remembers the sound of the audience roar on Iron Maiden live cassettes, which he listened to as a child. Likewise, he recalls standing in awe when listening to Halford’s final high notes in “Between the Hammer and the Anvil” for the first time.
Today, he seeks to generate in others similar emotions.

Landmarks

In March 2008, Fughu played at the legendary Luna Park Stadium in Buenos Aires as the opening act of Dream Theater, after having been selected by Mike Portnoy himself from their MySpace demos.
Then came the first international tour to Uruguay, with a glorious end at the prestigious “Sala Zitarrosa” in Montevideo.
In 2009, Fughu released their first album “Absence“, receiving countless praises in Argentina and all over the world. On May 25th, 2013, Fughu made a strong bet and launched two albums simultaneously: “Human – The Tales” and “Human – The Facts” (a conceptual piece).
With guest artists like Jeff Kollman (Cosmosquad, Glenn Hughes), Damian Wilson (Threshold, Headspace), Darío Schmunk (Tenor), GEA, etc. Both works received excellent reviews and opened the door to Fughu’s next step: traveling abroad. In 2015, Fughu made their first European tour, playing in Germany, Poland, Hungary, Romania, Serbia, and Austria, making a lot of new fans and friends who enjoy and support the band. Not long afterwards, vocalist Santiago Burgi decided to leave the band to focus on his Lyric career in Opera Theaters in Germany. After a tough search (102 singers tried), the empty spot was filled in 2017 by Renzo Favaro. 2016. The band produced the popular acclaimed video clip of “Quirk of fate”
It was the time for a wide Mexican Tour. Back in Buenos Aires Fughu was an open act for Italian legend Premiata Forneria Marconi.
In 2020, Fughu released their album “Lost Connection” featuring 10 new songs that changed the game with special guests like Göran Edman, Claudio “Tano“ Marciello, Ernesto Romeo, etc. The album was chosen among the best albums of 2020 by the specialized press. Peggy video clip was launched.

In 2022 found Fughu making his second European tour, this time, playing at big festivals in Germany and Poland. The feedback from the audience was really something else. The tour closed with a great concert at one of the most important festivals in the world, “Night Of The Prog Festival” in Loreley, Germany.
Back in Buenos Aires, the band opens for Sons Of Apollo.
In 2023: The Fish enters the studio and produces two singles from their next album, both songs with several video clips produced by the band itself ( Alive and Chemical Rainbows)

2024 gave birth to Fughu’s fifth album, “Stolen Pictures“. An album only for the brave who dare listen to music in its most pure state. Totally unfit for conservative or easy-music listeners. Also brought the third European Tour for the band, playing in Germany, Austria, Check Republic, Poland and Spain. Fughu moves forward no matter what, always looking for new horizons and always looking to set the bar higher (and weirder).
