The Band

Biography

  • In 1999, at a school in the neighborhood of Saavedra in Buenos Aires, two strangers met on an improvised stage. After playing some Megadeth and Deep Purple tunes, they drove the crowd crazy. Ariel Bellizio (guitar) and Alejandro López (drums) would never separate afterwards, even though they were thrown out of school after this episode.

  • A ten-year-old Marcelo Malmierca, the son of an unknown jazz drummer, went mad while listening to King Crimson, ELP, Van Der Graaf, and Astor Piazzolla. and years later, lost his mind making his own synthesizers, hoping to reproduce the sounds that they left in his head. Juan Manuel López, known as the Argentinian with the widest knowledge about KISS, lost his composure after listening to “Sheer Heart Attack” by Queen.

  • He’s currently studying the life and work of David Bowie while playing bass. In 2017, after listening to 102 singers, Fughu found his voice and heart again in Renzo Favaro. Renzo still remembers the sound of the audience roar on Iron Maiden live cassettes, which he listened to as a child. Likewise, he recalls standing in awe when listening to Halford’s final high notes in “Between the Hammer and the Anvil” for the first time.

  • Today, he seeks to generate in others similar emotions.

In March 2008, Fughu played at the legendary Luna Park Stadium in Buenos Aires as the opening act for Dream Theater, after being selected by Mike Portnoy himself from their MySpace demos.
Then came the band’s first international tour to Uruguay, culminating in a memorable performance at the prestigious Sala Zitarrosa in Montevideo.

In 2009, Fughu released their debut album, “Absence”, receiving countless accolades in Argentina and around the world.

On May 25, 2013, Fughu made a strong bet releasing two albums simultaneously: “Human – The Tales” and “Human – The Facts“, a conceptual work. Featuring guest artists such as
Jeff Kollman (Cosmosquad, Glenn Hughes), Damian Wilson (Threshold, Headspace), Darío Schmunk (Tenor), and GEA, both albums received outstanding reviews and opened the door to Fughu’s next chapter: performing abroad.

In 2015, Fughu embarked on their first European tour, performing in Germany, Poland, Hungary, Romania, Serbia, and Austria, gaining many new fans and friends who continue to support the band.

In 2016, the band produced the critically acclaimed music video for “Quirk of Fate”.

Shortly thereafter, vocalist Santiago Burgi decided to leave the band to focus on his lyrical career in opera theaters in Germany.

After an extensive search involving 102 singers, the vacant position was filled in 2017 by Renzo Favaro.

It was then time for an extensive tour of Mexico. Upon returning to Buenos Aires, Fughu opened for the Italian progressive rock legends Premiata Forneria Marconi.

In 2020, Fughu released “Lost Connection”, an album featuring ten new songs and special guest appearances by Göran Edman, Claudio “Tano” Marciello, Ernesto Romeo, and others.

The album was selected among the best releases of 2020 by the specialized music press. The music video for “Peggy” was also released.

In 2022, Fughu embarked on their second European tour, this time performing at major festivals in Germany and Poland. The audience response was extraordinary. The tour concluded with a great
performance at one of the world’s most prestigious progressive rock events, the Night of the Prog Festival in Loreley, Germany. Back in Buenos Aires, the band opened for Sons of Apollo.

In 2023, the Fish entered the studio and recorded two singles for their upcoming album. Both tracks, “Alive” and “Chemical Rainbows“, were accompanied by music videos produced by the band itself.

2024 gave birth to Fughu’s fifth album, “Stolen Pictures”. An album for those brave enough to listen to music in its purest form, totally unfit for conservative listeners or those seeking easy listening.
The year also brought the band’s third European tour, with performances in Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Spain.

Fughu moves forward no matter what, always looking for new horizons and always looking to set the bar higher (and weirder).

2026 marks Fughu’s return to Europe, with performances at Woodstock Forever Festival and venues across the continent, from Spain to the Czech Republic.
